Background: The potential of phytochemicals to avert serious health issues has recently won them international scientific acknowledgment. Interest was sparked by studies on pharmacological processes and the search for chemical compositions of plant extracts that possess anticancer properties. Aim of work: The present investigation's goal was to evaluate Saw palmetto extract's chemotherapeutic anti-tumor potential against mammary carcinogenesis induced by Ehrlich ascites carcinoma (EAC) implantation in Swiss albino mice. Material and methods: Monitoring tumor incidence, volume, and weight was used to assess the efficacy of Saw palmetto extract against EAC. The status of biochemical oxidative stress- MDA related profile. Furthermore, the profile of antioxidants; the activity of SOD, GR, GST, TAC, and CAT, as well as indicators of renal and hepatic toxicity (urea, creatinine, and transaminases), as well as following therapy, histopathological alterations was examined. Results: The results revealed that the tumor and neovascularization inhibition, decrease in oxidative stress, increase in the antioxidants, and restoration of liver and kidney functions. Conclusion: According to all acquired results, our findings imply that treatment with Saw palmetto extract provided both strong chemotherapeutic activity and antioxidant protection against breast cancer.
